Description Jörg Hermsdorf 2008-03-23 14:39:06 UTC
Following this (http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1209) bug thread, there seems to be some kind of patch now for the not-working status LED for wireless devices using the iwlwifi driver on many notebooks. AFAIK there's no agreement yet, how this should fixed upstream. I just want to trigger the discussion, if it's worth to use the patch posted in the mentioned thread for openSUSE 11.0 as an interim solution until the decision has been made upstream?

There's now an an appropriate LED patch for this in the kernel tree:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/rchatre/iwlwifi-2.6.git;a=commit;h=ec2ce7fc7890b37d564a274513d8d99ed4edb9ac

I don't know what kernel openSUSE 11.0 will ship with, but is there a chance, that this patch will be backported to the kernel openSUSE 11.0 final kernel?
Comment 2 Greg Kroah-Hartman 2008-04-18 15:40:51 UTC
11.0 will go with a 2.6.25 kernel.

Ass this is a very large patch, it probably will not work for our release. If a smaller, more non-intrusive change does go in, please let us know.

Also, we are considering providing updated kernel packages in the future, so it might just be a matter of waiting until the 2.6.26 kernel comes out before support for this will happen.

I just tested with the Kernel of the day (KOTD) from the repository http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_Factory/.
IT WORKS NOW!!! :-)

But the problem is, in this repository there are no packages for all the other kernel modules that are available for the 2.6.25 kernel. Is there any update on the consideration of providing the updated kernel packages you mentioned?
