This means the kded module* responsible for providing information on the 
system's disks to the desktop failed an internal sanity check while talking 
to the system store of hardware information (hal) and died.

Please could you file a bug report at bugzilla.novell.com, product: openSUSE 
10.3, component: KDE and assign it to me (wstephenson@novell.com and attach 
the lshal -l section referring to this 40Gb drive to the BR, and I'll try to 
reproduce locally.  If I need any more info I'll follow up on the BR.

Error occurs when looking at properties of the NFS mounted HP MediaVault.
The 0.7 that appears below that when highlighetd shows as 20.7gb which is the free space on that drive
