screenshot of kernel bug message
It seems that I need to start X11 to trigger the bug. I boot into runlevel 3 and reboot, there is no crash. I've updated the reiserfs patchset. Can you try it with a kernel that has the following in the changelog: Apr 19 2008 - jeffm@suse.de * Re-synced reiserfs patch set due to broken local repo. I've tried the current KOTD 20080419.... allready. The crash at shutdown doesn't seem to exist any more. But now, if I run the system more than a few minutes, it just freezes when X11 is running. I couldn't catch any error messages for that problem so far. So I can't decide if there is still a reiserfs related problem or if there is another problem. *** Bug 365491 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Now I got with KOTD 20080422152912 ( reiserfsck finds no corruption on /dev/dm-7 after the crash) : pr 23 19:02:10 PC1 kernel: REISERFS error (device dm-7): vs-4010 is_reusable: block number is out of range 24936479 (1572864) Apr 23 Kernel log
The ata2 errors are another bug, #384150 .
(In reply to comment #8 from Andras Mantia) > Created an attachment (id=210708) [details] > Kernel log > > The ata2 errors are another bug, #384150 . > I think that is no reiserfs problem at all. Your ata disk said "good bye" and now suspend to that disk is not working any more. I'm not sure. The ata problems are for the DVD drives on an IDE channel. The root reiserfs partition is on a SATA drive. The same drive contains other partitions as well, those were correctly unmounted. Here is my fstab: /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST3250620AS_9QE06NM6-part7 /data2 reiserfs defaults 1 1 /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST3250620AS_9QE06NM6-part6 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST3250620AS_9QE06NM6-part5 /data ext3 defaults 1 1 /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST3250620AS_9QE06NM6-part2 / reiserfs defaults 1 1 /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST3250620AS_9QE06NM6-part1 /boot ext3 efaults 1 2 /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_MAXTOR_6L040J2_662130911986-part2 /windows/C vfat users,gid=users,umask=0002,utf8=true 0 0 /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_MAXTOR_6L040J2_662130911986-part3 /windows/D vfat users,gid=users,umask=0002,utf8=true 0 0 /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_MAXTOR_6L040J2_662130911986-part4 /maxtor ext3 defaults 1 1 1 1 The problematic partition is /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST3250620AS_9QE06NM6-part2 as you see -part7 is also reiserfs on the same drive and was correctly unmounted. But, I tried today the KOTD from 25st of April, and after a reboot everything worked fine. The ata problem was still present, so later I workarounded that with not using libata for the IDE channel. But I remember that first I booted the KOTD with libata, got the same ata errors, rebooted and I the root partition was correctly unmounted. So probably the bug is fixed in that kernel. The problem still exists with 2.6.25.2-HEAD_20080507163303 : May 9 04:28:50 PC1 kernel: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 0000000000100108 May 9 04:28:50 PC1 kernel: IP: console.log
Still an issue with kernel-default-2.6.25.4-8.
It makes impossible to login to GNOME as a new user with /home on reiserfs.

[PATCH] reiserfs: Use list_del_init in use_preallocated_list_if_available
__discard_prealloc() calls list_del on ei->i_prealloc_list regardless of
the state of ei->i_prealloc_count. The rest of the action in that function
is safe regardless of if the list is empty or not.
If the list hasn't been used, then i_prealloc_list will be just initialized.
If it has, and use_preallocated_list_if_available() has been called, and
the prealloc list has been depleted, then the list entry will be poisoned.
This patch uses list_del_init so the list_head is initialized and we don't
oops on the poisoned value.
I'm committing this patch to CVS now. Can you verify that it fixes the problem with the next KOTD?
I've tested KOTD 2.6.25.4-HEAD_20080602152815 and 2.6.25.4-HEAD_20080603170455. No crashes with log files until now. So that specific reiserfs crash seems to be fixed. But there are still system freezes without any logfile entries which don't happen with 2.6.25-rc6-git5-HEAD_20080326045029. Unfortutalely the only thing that still seems to work with on that frozen system is a reboot with Alt-SysRQ-b. Unmounting with Alt-SysRQ-u doesn't seem to work because all filesystems replay their journal after such a freeze. And with Alt-SysRQ-k the upper third of the screen becomes black. But finally no usable terminal. But it seems that also the propriatary nvidia driveris a factor in that problem , because I haven't seen that problem when running the nv driver. I have system freezes here with 2.6.25.5-1.1 and the factory version, the display freezes and SysRq-S, SysRq-U fail, only SysRq-B works. All filesystems are checked for consistency after reboot (/ is reiserfs, 3 others ext3). The freeze is almost certain to occur if I browse using konqueror; once I left the system for a long time (updating to opensuse 11) and it crashed after 13 hours without opening konqueror. Using an ati radeon 9200 card with the radeon drivers. Some kernel warnings that might be relevant and appear randomly: REISERFS warning (device sda2): journal-1409 journal_mark_dirty: returning because j_wcount was 0 (empty line here) REISERFS warning (device sda2): jdm-20004 reiserfs_delete_xattrs: Couldn't delete all xattrs (-2) Running on 2.6.22.17-0.1-default (opensuse 10.3) the system is perfectly stable after 18 hours and heavy konqueror use. Comments 14 and 15 point to bug 304351, which I believe has now been fixed. Closing this one as FIXED. |
