Description Ralf Haferkamp 2008-04-10 09:57:05 UTC
In first stage of installation, when clicking on "Change ..." in the "Clock and Time Zone" Screen. The "Synchronize with NTP Server" Radio Button the Widgets below it are disabled. I can't specify and NTP Server to be used after the installation.
The Alpha3+ DVD was used for installation.

That works as expected, because there is no network set up that NTP could use. IIRC the help text talks about that. It works when installing from the net.

We could set the network up, though... It could be relatively simple given the existing code.

Sorry, other bugs took my time and I prefer not to touch the installation with enhancements at this stage. Postponing to 11.1.

The code to use is installation/src/clients/inst_network_check.ycp and inst_network_setup.ycp

May this has something to do with this bug:

Probably not. I think that you mean bug 400376.

In that bug, when one installs from the Live CD and does not have network configured, YaST offers to configure NTP which then fails.
It should be either disabled (like during the normal installation) or the network could be set up, like this bug requests.

Somewhat related is the feature request to have NTP setup by default (mandatory for 11.1). It would make sense to configure it even when we have no network, and then the NTP service would detect network by itself.

Work-around: Back off to the point where you are asked to decide between a new installation and an upgrade. There is a check box to add new repositories. If you check it, the next dialog will notice that it might be useful to set up the network. Do so, then you can back off without adding any new repositories. Then when you arrive at the NTP setup, it will not be grayed out because the network is available now.

Obviously a better solution is to enable the network setup directly from the NTP dialog.

Well, now it is possible to set up NTP, just verify that NTP server works is not possible without network.
