if you try to install a package, it has dependencies, however you will see no notification about packages added to transaction.

same for removal. try to remove yast2-qt and your gnome will probably go away, because you was not noticed about changes caused by this transaction.

yast2 (Qt UI) displays automatically added packages after pressing [Accept], you can also use "Installation Summary" view to see the installed/removed packages.

yast2-gtk doesn't.

When you press Accept, it should show a window with some nodes as dependencies. This list of dependencies is not accurate though. The 10.3 package manager has several shortcomings that hopefully the new 11.0 one has overcome.
I very much doubt we can push the 11.0 backport in the updates channel -- they are pretty strict about that, but possibly we can get it in the main repository though. If you want some instructions on how to use the yast2-qt package manager, or how to upgrade to the 11.0 one, I can you tell that.
