Description Casual J. Programmer 2008-04-28 10:39:19 UTC
After "clean" install from Beta1 DVD & update from factory, trying to play the sounds in Sound Preferences / Sounds ( error.wav, login.wav, logout.wav ) results in silence.

Comment 1 Takashi Iwai 2008-04-28 10:47:10 UTC
Does the sound work in any other situations, or the problem is only in preferences?
Comment 2 Casual J. Programmer 2008-04-28 10:59:28 UTC
Well, I hear the Beep in Sound Preferences "Devices" tab and I can play music with banshee, banshee also plays the sounds in /usr/share/sounds ( the ones Sound Preferences is not playing ), double clicking the sound files in /usr/share/sounds plays them with totem.

There's actually a bug in PA, where you have to enable network access for it to work.
Click on the volume button, configure local sound server, check enable access to local sound devices, then see if the system sound works.
If it does, this is a dupe of https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=375701
