Description Carlos Gonçalves 2008-04-29 01:15:40 UTC
Sometimes users don't want to download and install packages at the same time because they just want to download and them install later. There are several reasons:

- running on battery;
- not the appropriate time to get their system under heavy resource usage;
- or simply because they want to download everything first and install afterwards.

So my request is if it would be possible to add a --download-only feature into update, upgrade, and install zypper commands.

yes, we are already tracking this in fate #302159 (and maybe also elsewhere :O)
Comment 2 Jan Kupec 2008-04-29 08:26:09 UTC

Comment 3 Jan Kupec 2008-06-05 15:45:55 UTC

The --download-only switch has only been added to 'zypper up' but not yet to 'zypper in'. I would appreciate that feature to be backported to download.opensuse.org/repositories/zypp:/Code11-Branch.

Please do not reopen bugs resolved as FEATURE. The feature is tracked in fate #302159.

As to your comment, the switch in 'up' is just a fake to prevent zypper to complain about an unknown option; it has no real effect. Is that what you need?

As for the real implementation, that is currently under development and it will probably not be possible/reasonable to port it back to code11.

How can I access fate #302159?
