Description Casual J. Programmer 2008-04-30 09:38:28 UTC
After "clean" install & update from factory trying to save a file with firefox results in erratic behaviour if the given download directory is missing.

I.e. I defined an external drive as download directory. When it is available trying to download http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/boot/boot.iso ( for example ) works by selecting "Save Link As" as well as by clicking on it and pressing OK in the dialog.

When the external drive is not present, selecting "Save Link As" achieves nothing, while clicking the link brings up the d/l dialog and pushing OK makes it go away.

At any rate I think firefox should give out a message that d/l directory is missing and ask for an alternate path.

Still true in 11.1 final, only 9 month passed...
Comment 2 Hubert Figuiere 2009-01-14 19:25:18 UTC
did you file the bug upstream?

seriously most of Firefox bug should be filed upstream because that's where developers do the work.
Comment 3 Wolfgang Rosenauer 2009-10-13 05:32:46 UTC
If you still see this please file it upstream indeed as you know the issue much better. Feel free to post the link here for reference.

Now at openSuSE 11.2 M8

I just tried it, it's still there. I will post upstream and put a reference here.

Just in case you want to check it for yourself:

Edit/Preferences/Save files to

Enter an existing directory, then delete it. Firefox will recreate it on the next download. Only if the directory is on a removable drive which is removed, the download just dies away without further notice.
