it's very frequent to have a system failing to boot, any failed grub modifiction gives such a thing. So the usual option to boot the installed system is *vital*

please give it us.
for 11 it seems too late, but you can give a rescue cd with this option!!!

the "rescue" option" never fix such problem (tried right now!!!)

thanks

Use http://www.supergrubdisk.org/ if you broke your grub. It's made for that job and we decided not to support this any longer.

Kindly consider to restore this option for dvd / cd media installation.

I guess super grub disk can handle almost any boot problem, but maybe new suse users do not know how to proceed with it neither know the availability of the application itself.

Also, think on users having no way to download super grub disk nor writing it onto a cd / floppy / usb. It is more probable they already have a copy of suse install media (dvd / cd) and so boot from there.

I think having this option on the media itself is a very high advantage for all (experienced and newcomer) users.

we did consider it and decided against supporting it. Repair your system using the yast repair option or if you're an expert use the rescue system provided. For anything else, use a tool that is made for that - and tested for that.

Can you please address me to that discussion (maybe a "project" or "factory" list thread) so I can check all points of view on this issue? :-)

O.K., I can see your thoughts.

But leaving a new suse user dealing with the "repair option" or "rescue system" it's a bit dangerous when they only want to boot their suse installation, mostly due to a grub problem.

Just my understanding :-)

I can understand why you decided to remove the function (I've seen this in an other bug report) - in short too many non working cases.

However, notice that this is not only usefull in case of grub fault, but also i case of no grub at all because windows remove the mbr. I experienced several time the repair system option and this *never* repaired anything and super grub is not that usefull.

so maybe this is an option repair should have?
