Description Larry Finger 2008-06-30 14:37:05 UTC
In one of the testing versions (I think RC1), there were two KNetworkManager applet icons shown, one for wired and one for wireless. In the release version, I usually have none, even though the wireless has connected. I use KDE3, not 4.

If I plug in a second wireless interface, the wireless icon appears and I can select either interface.

One other thing I notice is that the signal strength is not based on quality the way that KNM in 10.3 was.

For what it is worth, I much prefer the behavior of KNM in 10.3. The ability to select from several ESSID's was useful, and it was easier to get from one wifi interface to another.

KNetworkManager was reworked to only use one icon in GM. If multiple interfaces are connected (wired + wireless) KNM should show the state of the default connection. If only one interface is up the state of this interface should be displayed.

It should behave the same but updating the tray icon seems to be broken currently.

I agree that there should be only 1 tray icon, and that the state should be displayed, but it is not. Since my original posting, I have discovered that plugging in a cable to the wired interface is sufficient to show the icon. It happens so quickly that KNM must already be running, it just isn't displaying.

Larry, could you please try if using a connection defined in KNM (via "Create new connection") results in the correct icon?

Maybe you ran into the same issue as #397332?
Comment 4 Larry Finger 2008-07-02 16:19:01 UTC
I don't think it is the same as #397332. When my icon displays, it is correct.

I have deleted the connection and reentered it. When next I reboot, I'll see if that fixed it. I did a clean install of / for 11.0, but /home was a carryover from 10.3. Perhaps something there messed things up.

KNetworkManager for KDE3 is not maintained any longer. Therefore I resolve all bugs that are still open as WONTFIX without looking at each single bug report.
If this bug deals already with KDE4 and is still in progress, then please apologize the mistake and feel free to reopen it.
