Description Darren Hodge 2008-07-15 11:43:26 UTC
OpenSUSE 11 is excellent - one minor problem. The supplied driver doesn't work correctly (outputs control characters and other garbage when printing graphics / text). This issue also affected OpenSUSE 10.3.

I built and installed the driver from the HP website.

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/index.html

Everything is now working!

Perhaps this could be included in future releases?

Best wishes
Darren

Thanks.
Driver development is not scope of our business, as we usually lack of required hardware. We only provide the OpenSource drivers, which are public available. We do all the necessary integration work for our distribution, and fix issues in the printing system itself.

If you see issues in the driver instead, please bugreport them at the appropriate OpenSource project. But as there is no reference for the used driver in the bugreport, I'm unable to point you to the correct project.

If you really use the "hplip" driver for that printer (I doubt), I can say that we built and ship the latest version before the distributions feature freeze. So, if there are later required bug fixes in the project, we are unable to update that on the DVD media, as you might understand. Please wait for next our distribution, which should contain fixed driver then.

Thanks for the bugreport and your understanding. But we are sorry that we are unable to help you more.
