When powersave gets started I get an error and the computer freeze. The only I can do is poweroff the computer.

Can you please varify that it's powersave which causes the freeze? Please do 'chkconfig -d powersave' and reboot, still freezing? (You have to 'chkconfig -a powersave' to reenable it)

Furthermore, please try to boot with CPUFREQ=off. Thanks.

Can you try if that also happens with openSUSE 11.1?
