Description Forgotten User sbrnCzegUd 2008-08-25 23:46:20 UTC
I'm connecting to the internet using an Huawei U220 UMTS wireless modem through knetworkmanager and everything goes smoothly. However, when I tried sharing the internet connection to another laptop using an wired crossing-over lan cable (and following the guide at en.opensuse.org/ics) I was surprised by the fact that knetworkmanager doesn't seem to be able to hold more than one connection at a time. This came to my attention when I changed the configurations at YaST and my previously estabilished internet connection through this modem died.

Anyway, I think yast should have an option like the one called "share internet connection over network" found in mandriva. It would really come in handy simplifying all this matter.

NetworkManager supports connection sharing, but not with yast. Both connections need to be set up and activated with NM. With nm-applet (gnome frontend), there's Connection Editor -> Edit connection -> IPv4 settings tab has a Method combo box that contains "Share to other computers".

Not sure if knm has that, reassigning to the KNM maintainer.

This will not go into KDE3 KNM anymore.
But we should of course consider that for K4NM.

It's implemented in KNM4, but currently disabled because of security problems with the way it works in NetworkManager itself.
