The image viewer XV (3.10a-1228.1) as compiled for openSUSE 11.0 cannot read the dump files created by the xwd program anymore.  
The binary of an earlier version of openSUSE (xv-3.10a-1113 of openSUSE 10.2) does run in 11.0 and can read the files, as can, e.g., 'display'
