During installation, the keyboard layout of the GUI is not set to German layout, instead it still has the US layout (e.g. "y" and "z" are swapped).

In the boot menu, I selected German language. The GUI-installer correctly preselected the German keyboard layout so I just clicked "Next", but the layout did not change. The shell (CTRL+ALT+F2) on the other hand did have the correct keyboard layout.

I noticed this during manual partitionning, because typing a "/" was not working.

I can confirm this bug with Beta1. I selected the German layout in the GUI-installer instead of the boot menu, so this doesn't matter.
After installation the keyboard layout works correctly in both gui and shell.

I can confirm this as a problem with Norwegian keyboard layout as well.

- The chosen keyboard during install was Norwegian.
- Keyboard in the shell (CTRL-ALT-F1) is Norwegian
- Keyboard in KDE4.1 is American.

Then I went into the Yast keyboard  module and checked. It said Norwegian was active. Pushed "OK" and after that the keyboard layout also worked in KDE 4.1

Since the layout is correct in the shell, this is not a problem of the boot loader or linuxrc. Stefan, if you think it is not an UI problem either, please re-assign back.

Works in beta 2 for German keyboard.

As for comment #2: Was that _during_ or _after_ installation? Because if it was after installation then this is probably an entirely different bug.

The NCurses UI doesn't change any keyboard settings; it uses what was set from the outside.

What do you mean by this? In beta2, with textmode=1 and German language, I get
the German layout (it doesn't work for cz, though).

I mean that this cannot be a bug of the NCurses UI since it is not the NCurses UI that sets keyboard layouts.
