Description Michael Monreal 2008-09-23 19:10:10 UTC
I just tried to setup a printer (which is shared via samba) in openSUSE 11.0: no luck. The printer module in Yast asks for the workgroup name and printer share name... I tried to guess them but it did not work. There's no way to browse workgoups etc.

Just a few days ago I setup the same printer from within Ubuntu: no problem at all.

Rumor is, 11.1 will ship with system-config-printer (which is what ubuntu uses, too) so this will probably no longer be an issue but I doubt the Yast module will go away, so this still seems to be a valid problem and the module should be more user-friendly in the future.

FYI:
The rumor that 11.1 (and 11.2) ship system-config-printer is true
and yes - I also know - there is a nice [Browse] functionality
to set up a SMB print queue.
