The most recent update has turned my desktop back to a default suse green swirl and it cannot be changed. Running latest Factory.

Did you read http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2008-09/msg00052.html ? Green swirl? Any screenshot?

Do you mean that it now shows the default SUSE wallpaper and it cannot be changed?
