Please provide output of "rpm -qa | grep compiz" and what gnome/kde/opensuse version are you using.
Comment 2 Marek Ruszkowski 2008-10-06 08:13:16 UTC

Older version < 0.7.8 was working fine.

Try:

init 3
rm -rf /home/username/.config/compiz
init 5
log back in and enable compiz using "simple-ccsm"

Or test compiz in new user account.
Comment 4 Marek Ruszkowski 2008-10-06 09:01:07 UTC
Compiz started but it's unstable (can crash at any moment) and slow. Enabling blur windows plugin crashes it, can't start jpeg plugin, probably some more. And I can't start emerald (removed ~/.emerald).

Where can I get older version? :)
Comment 5 Jigish Gohil 2008-10-06 09:27:29 UTC
Older version is not available.

I can confirm activating jpeg plugin also crashes compiz, bug is already open for neg plugin(bug #432313).

Emerald issue is also reported separately(bug #431846).

Default profile from simple-ccsm and keeping blur, neg, jpeg plugins should make compiz work well.

You can also try packages from here:
