Description pa ju 2008-11-05 18:31:17 UTC
In case there are more than around 30 updates/patches and all of them are selected the updater fails completely. Claims about not getting response from daemon (iirc). If updates are selected manually and limited <30 it works fine unless there are updates which dependencies needs to be solved manually (see other report about enhancing the tool).

Please attach /var/log/pk_backend_zypp right after a failure.
Comment 2 pa ju 2008-11-09 16:52:45 UTC
Required file does not exist. Not before the error dialog saying:

kdesu(26148)/kdsu (kdelibs) KDEsu::KDEsuClient::command:[/usr/src/packages/BUILD/kdelibs-4.1.3/kdesu/client.cpp: 196] no reply from daemon.

or after the dialog.

I'm quite sure that on 11.0 these things are in /var/log/zypper.log.

(And I'm also quite sure that this is a known problem on 11.0 - unfortunately I don't remember the bug number.)

/var/log/zypper.log gets plenty of log info when doing updates. But unfortunately nothing comes to log when it fails to get response from daemon. Only dialog.

Ah, now I remember: The problem is that kdesu fails if the commandline has more than 950 chars. See bug 414284 for details. (Workaround: Use YaST if you want to update lots of packages.)

@Thomas: Is your comment in bug 414284 that there won't be an online update for 11.0 still valid? If so, then close this bug as duplicate.
