output from hwinfo --cdrom
Please attach the result of dmesg. cc'ing Kay and Danny. There was a similar report to this one, right? Is this a hal problem or is something wrong with libata? I can confirm this bug on a Sony Vaio Z Laptop. CDs or DVDs are not detected under Gnome/KDE3/KDE4. Using Yast Hardware Info, however, the CD drive is listed and the label of the corresponding inserted DVD is shown. Also, yast installs fine from dvd source under any desktop environement. Attached find my outputs of dmesg and hwinfo --cdrom (executed with CD inserted). Created attachment 254520 [details]
