Description Clark Tompsett 2008-11-18 03:55:09 UTC
Beta 5 kde desktop. Hal does not see cdrom/dvd inserted into drive. Drive spins up but no messages in dmesg showing that the drive is now seen. Drive can be mounted manually.

Tested with hp dv5-1004nr and gw ml3109 laptops.

Please attach the result of dmesg. cc'ing Kay and Danny. There was a similar report to this one, right? Is this a hal problem or is something wrong with libata?
Comment 4 Michael Denker 2008-11-22 03:09:10 UTC
I can confirm this bug on a Sony Vaio Z Laptop. CDs or DVDs are not detected under Gnome/KDE3/KDE4. Using Yast Hardware Info, however, the CD drive is listed and the label of the corresponding inserted DVD is shown. Also, yast installs fine from dvd source under any desktop environement. Attached find my outputs of dmesg and hwinfo --cdrom (executed with CD inserted).
