Looks suspiciously like this bug http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11843 ? I am also getting the "sense key/no sense" messages when I plug in a USB hard disk on openSUSE 11.1 RC 1. The same USB hard disk works perfectly on openSUSE 11.0 Yes, it looks like that issue. I'll check whether the fix will go in through the stable series or needs to be backported. @Javier Unless it is the same enclosure, please open a new bug report Tvrtko, your device is known as unusual in the current kernel. Please test the latest kernel and provide the output of "lsusb -v" if it doesn't work. Same symptoms I guess... This still happens with the latest kernel. (In reply to comment #5 from Oliver Neukum) > Tvrtko, your device is known as unusual in the current kernel. Please test the > latest kernel and provide the output of "lsusb -v" if it doesn't work. > I am running 2.6.27.7-4-default from kernel-default-2.6.27.7-4.1.x86_64.rpm which as far as I know is the latest. I'll attach lsusb -v output.. Created attachment 259014 [details]

@Javier Open a separate bug report Done. Bug #457941 This hits _a lot_ of usb storage devices (see for instance #264789 in launchpad) and is a regression from 11.0. Oliver you might want to think about raising the prio of this... Please test the kernel found at http://beta.suse.com/private/oneukum/456526 Works fine for me. I am now back to published kernel because I need the matching kernel source package so hopefully you don't need any more info here? However that approach seems unproductive. The real cause is a change of error handling in the SCSI layer. Is this issue important enough to consider reverting this change to 2.6.26 behavior? I would say yes but i don't know what other implications that might have. We might want to ask Greg who was involved in the upstream bugreport. Greg? This is about bko#11843. A link to the discussion: http://marc.info/?l=linux-scsi&m=122842458004037&w=2 I have a generic USB enclosure with a 160GB IDE drive that gives the same problem. It worked 100% in openSUSE 11 on the same machine. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 457941 *** |
