Description Jan van Male 2008-12-05 22:32:23 UTC
I did a fresh install of opensuse11.1-rc1 where I left defaults mostly untouched I selecting kde 4.1 and most development packages. After the install was succesful, I rebooted from the install DVD and selected "Repair Installed System" -> "Expert Tools" -> "Verify Installed Software". The packages cups, hal, ntp and postfix are reported to have problems. I've seen the same problem on a different, previous install which was slightly modified after the installation.

The expected behaviour here is to see no problems reported in packages at all, since this is an fresh install.

Additionally, selecting any of the 4 packages (cups, hal, ntp, postfix) for repair does not change the problem, these 4 packages are always reported to have problems.

Lastly, the "Show Log" button gives a log where the fourth column (Status) is not readable. It contains lines like "...", "......G." ".....UG."

The same behaviour is seen when doing "Automatic Repair" or "Customized Repair"

Please show the exact error messages.

You can also run in the installed system "rpm --verify package".
Comment 2 Jan van Male 2008-12-06 15:21:11 UTC
On the installed system:

# rpm --verify cups
# rpm --verify hal
# rpm --verify ntp
# rpm --verify postfix
S.5....T c /etc/postfix/main.cf
S.5....T c /etc/postfix/master.cf
#

I'll add screenshots from the GUI installer below.

Jan, let's handle postfix here only. Could you create different bugreports - one for each package?

This is nothing critical but should be fixed anyhow...
Comment 7 Jan van Male 2008-12-07 15:16:14 UTC
Ok, I opened 3 new reports.
cups: bug 457104
hal: bug 457105
ntp: bug 457106

I understand now that the "unreadable" fourth column is actually from rpm --verify. It would be good to indicate that in the log window. Something like "Output generated from rpm --verify PACKAGE" would have pointed me in the right direction. Initially I suspected a problem with the width of the GUI column that garbled the output to dots (since dots are a common way to abbreviate long lines in Yast).

Both files are configuration files, which have to been configured after the system is installed. The configuration depends on the setup of the workstation or server resp. Therefore I think this is not a bug.
