Description Kum Fei Poon 2009-01-13 14:56:37 UTC
OpenSUSE 11.1 x86_64 on Lenovo T61.

Installed skype-2.0.0.72-suse.i586.rpm (using zypper in), several dependencies required (mainly QT-related).

On exiting Skype, the Desktop Effects will be disabled (the X window will flash a couple of times when it happens).

Tried re-installation of OpenSUSE 11.1 3 times with same result.

Are you definitely using compiz? could compiz be crashing? Do desktop effects start again when you login?
Comment 2 Kum Fei Poon 2009-01-27 01:57:33 UTC
Yes, I'm definitely using compiz: rotating cube etc all working even when skype is running. Only when I exit skpe does it happen. Checking the Desktop Effects post-skype exit shows it is disabled (unchecked).

Re-enabling the desktop effects, re-logging in or restarting the laptop enables Desktop Effects again.

PS: I've since moved back to OpenSUSE 11.0. Just too much hassle trying to get iFolder to work in 11.1

Hi,

Finally got round to installing 11.1 again (same T61 machine), with all updates applied.

The issue is still there: quitting Skype will disable Desktop Effects.

In addition, I've found the same issue when quitting VLC (v0.9.8a-15.3 (x86_64) from the VideoLan repository).

regards
kumfei :-)

I can also verify this is the same on my machine. It also happens to be an IBM T61 with 11.1 and all updates. Freshly installed this week with the latest version of SKYPE 2.0. SO far it is the only application that unconfigures the Desktop Effects in GNOME. I have exactly the same issue.

Please update packages from X11:Compiz repository and test again. Reopen the bug if bug still exist after update.

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Compiz/openSUSE_11.1/

I am guessing the issue is related to bug #443819

Hi,

The http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Compiz/openSUSE_11.1/ repository is included as one of the update repositories on my install of OpenSUSE 11.1. The issue still persists, with Skype as well as VLC.

Checking YaST shows no updates available from that particular repository

Installed from X11:Compiz:

compiz 0.7.8-41.1 (x86_64)
compiz-branding-openSUSE 0.7.8-41.1 (x86_64)
compiz-fusion-plugins-main 0.7.8-30.14 (x86_64)
compiz-gnome 0.7.8-41.1 (x86_64)
compiz-manager 0.0.1_git080201-72.1 (noarch)
compizconfig-settings-manager 0.7.8-5.19 (x86_64)
libcompizconfig 0.7.8-10.4 (x86_64)
python-compizconfig 0.7.8-2.30 (x86_64)
simple-ccsm 0.7.8-47.20 (x86_64)

Something for David to investigate.
