Despite the announcment of the KDE team, nothing has changed in the poor management of dual head setups with upcoming 4.2.

I use the free radeonhd driver, and the connected monitors report their specs nicely, no matter if connected via VGA or DVI. Yet, the KDE configuration app is unable to identify the monitors correctly. Instead of treating them as two independent monitors, they are handled as some kind of overlay. I will attach a screenshot.

In a terminal, everything is totally fine with the xrandr tool. I can check the screens, I can turn them on an off independently, and I can arrange them to a nice dualhead setup:

Comment 4 Lubos Lunak 2009-01-30 18:12:04 UTC
This has been fixed for SLED11, post 11.1 release. You can update kdebase4-workspace from the KDE:KDE4:Factory repository.
Comment 5 Forgotten User Drfk9mafMw 2009-02-02 09:53:27 UTC
I have updated today from factory, to no success. Still the same behavior:
the GUI tool is not capable of separating the two monitors and place them.

I repeat: it works totally fine on a terminal with xrandr commands, and it works perfectly well with Gnome *on the very same box*.

In case I am missing something, please tell me.
Comment 6 Stephan Binner 2009-02-02 09:54:59 UTC
Re Comment #4, I think Lubos meant to say KDE:KDE4:STABLE repository. :-)
Comment 7 Forgotten User Drfk9mafMw 2009-02-02 10:08:05 UTC
So it is not fixed in 4.2?
Comment 8 Lubos Lunak 2009-02-03 17:53:48 UTC
Yes, I meant :STABLE, :Factory does not have the patches.
Comment 9 Forgotten User Drfk9mafMw 2009-02-04 10:45:37 UTC
Sorry to ask again and further: the release announcement of KDE 4.2 stated that the bugs in kephal have been fixed -- does this mean that the KDE 4.2 packages provided by openSUSE are not fully uptodate?

From what I understand, this issue should be fixed upstream already:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=181679
Comment 10 Forgotten User Drfk9mafMw 2009-02-04 10:47:33 UTC
Reopening and moving to 11.2 since this issue is not fixed.
Comment 11 Stephan Binner 2009-02-05 12:26:51 UTC
Feature regression
Comment 12 Lubos Lunak 2009-06-04 16:12:41 UTC
*** Bug 502179 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 13 Lubos Lunak 2009-08-18 09:19:25 UTC
Patch put back, trying to move it upstream.
Comment 14 Lubos Lunak 2009-09-11 13:33:50 UTC
This is now in 11.2, will be moved upstream somewhen later.
Comment 15 Tobias Hain 2009-10-11 11:50:07 UTC
@Lubos Lunak: Please push this patch upstream soon.

Besides the upstream bugreport mentioned in comment #9, it's also duplicated in the KDE bugzilla multiple times such as here:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180437

And also affects e.g. Kubuntu users preparing for their 9.10 release:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase-workspace/+bug/403610
Comment 16 Lubos Lunak 2009-11-09 10:07:07 UTC
Upstream.
Comment 17 Forgotten User Drfk9mafMw 2009-11-09 10:51:00 UTC
May I ask if there is a specific reason for why such upstream commits are pushed to after the release of other major KDE distributions (namely Kubuntu and Mandriva)? Or is that pure coincidence?
Comment 18 Lubos Lunak 2009-11-09 11:22:00 UTC
Yes, there is. I had better things to do before the 11.2 release. A pushing changes for KDE 4.4.x has no effect on recent releases of any distributions.
