I can't change the subwindow layout of the yast2 repository manager.
For example, if I maximize the window, I would like to make the left
subwindow, which shows a (IMHO completely useless) tree with exact two
entries, horizontally smaller, but this isn't possible.

This is a duplicate and already implemented in 11.2

Indeed, this is already implemented - the dialogs with left-side tree (provided they are Wizard widget-based) newly contain a splitter which enables shrinking/hiding/enlarging of the tree panel as the user sees fit. Moreover, the repositories manager UI has been redesigned and does not contain the tree anymore
