Description Forgotten User Drfk9mafMw 2009-03-01 11:21:54 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009012700 SUSE/3.0.6-0.1.2 Firefox/3.0.6

Just like Fedora announced for 11, we should also use the nouveau driver (without 3D acceleration) as default for Nvidial graphics hardware over the old and poor-featured nv.

Among the core improvements is randr1.2 support, which will allow multi screen setups even without the proprietary nvidia driver (legacy is about unusable with KDE 4.x).

Reproducible: Always

No way! Simply forget about it!

Fair enough, you are doing a good job with openSUSE xorg so I figure you have your reasons.
But how about including it in xorg-x11-driver-video or xorg-x11-driver-nouveau to make it easier for people to use it. Atleast the 2d part seems solid if Fedora thinks about using it for default.

Compiling and supporting nouveau is a nightmare. Sorry, it's not the intention of the nouveau project to produce a distribution ready driver - talked with Stephane (not Stefan) from the project about that.

Fedora has it because it's a community project. The nouveau driver is also packaged in openSUSE, and sometimes it even compiles.
