Description Daniele Tombolini 2009-06-26 23:57:39 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/4.2; Linux) KHTML/4.2.4 (like Gecko) SUSE

Xorg fails without useful errors but only:

(EE) No devices detected
Fatal server error:
no screens found.

This with kde4-livecd-i586-build148 (milestone 3 !?!)

Hardware spec:
IBM netvista PIV intel 845G chipset
Nvidia FX5200 (0x0322) AGP

Using an xorg.conf from opensuse 11.1 (replaced nvidia with nv) or one generated with X -configure or Sax2 -> black screen
Same with vesa driver.
ISO is ok and works fine under virtualbox. I'll try on another PC asap..

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.boot with kde-livecd build 148
2.
3.
Actual Results:
no X

Expected Results:
working X :)

Ok, something is broken..
Exactly the same thing on another PC:
Athlon 2800XP
Nvidia 7600GT AGP

I'll attach full logs if needed but at this point, should be easy to reproduce..
So, virtualbox -> ok
real hardware (32bit) -> bang!

I'm wonder, on my very old notebook (ACER 210) with trident vga, works fine !
Well, it's unuseable but this is another story (buggy IDE chipset)..

Ok, I'll attach all needed info tomorrow...

BTW, no such issues with that LiveCD on Intel 945GM. The intel driver just starts fine in the native resolution with the generic xorg.conf (no longer created by sax2). So this issue sounds driver specific to me.

Created attachment 300810 [details]
archive with all logs

Logs are from PC with Nvidia chipset and AMD cpu.

[...]
(==) Matched nvidia for the autoconfigured driver
(==) Assigned the driver to the xf86ConfigLayout

        compiled for 1.6.1, module version = 2.1.13
        Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 5.0
(II) NV: driver for NVIDIA chipsets: RIVA 128, RIVA TNT, RIVA TNT2,

(II) Primary Device is: PCI 02@00:00:0
(EE) No devices detected.

Apparently the autoconfiguration does not work with our nvidia "dummy" module, which I just remomved anyway. Please try the following. Either remove

a) /usr/lib/xorg/modules//drivers/nvidia_drv.so or
b) add 'Driver "nv"' to your xorg.conf

If it works now, the issue can be considered fixed with the latest xorg-x11-driver-video package in X11:XOrg (also submitted for factory).
