Description Graham Davis 2009-07-15 14:59:32 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.0) Gecko/20090617 SUSE/3.5.0-2.2 Firefox/3.5

Keyboard and mouse are not visible in SAX2. The mouse and keyboard are both wired and connected by USB.

Severity of this bug depends on whether the keyboard is correctly configured. If something goes wrong, there is no way to fix it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open SAX2 from the menu
2.
3.
Actual Results:
1. SAX2 contains icons for screen, tablet, and touch-screen. No mouse or keyboard.

Expected Results:
1. SAX2 should display all five pieces of hardware. In 11.1 KDE 4.3 RC2 running on same machine, this is what happens.

In addition to running 11.2-M3, I'm on KDE4.3 RC2.
Keyboard is Cherry G-224 and wired USB.
Mouse is a Belkin, also wired USB.

These modules have been removed by intention.

This is simply wrong. You can change these settings on-the-fly by the appropriate desktop tools.

Comment 5 Graham Davis 2009-07-15 18:48:12 UTC
(1) Steve, what desktop tools do you mean. When my keyboard seemed to be acting as USA instead of UK I could find no desktop tools to correct it.

(2) I presume the modules will be put back sometime soon?

(3) Presumably "resolved" means that you know what the problem is and not that it's fixed?

(4) [OT - just a gripe at Bugzilla] I wish there was an easier way to add attachments. One at a time is too slow when, like now, bugzilla is as slow as a tortoise in thick treacle.
Comment 6 Stefan Dirsch 2009-07-16 10:05:57 UTC
(1) KDE and Gnome provide control centers to change keyboard/mouse settings on-the-fly. For other desktops, which do no support such tools (yet), use
setxkbmap/xinput.

(2) Giving the user the impression, that it would still be required to change such settings via a static configuration, would be stupid IMO. It has been requested since a long time to provide dynamic X configuration. Now we are there, including video output (RANDR 1.2) and input (evdev/HAL). So we should use it.

(3) This bug is closed as duplicate to give you some background for the decision.

(4) off-topic (as you said)
