Currently plasmoid-networkmanagement simply doesn't work. Clicking on the plasmoind doesn't to anything at all (not even print an error message).
On top of that the icon in now a monochrome cell phone (see attachment).

The plasmoid is not actively developed atm, please use the systray application knetworkmanager instead.

That weird icon is there to tell you not to use the plasmoid at the moment.  It is actively developed but not ready for end users.
