Does it work if you use e.g. GNOME or Xfce instead of KDE? Does it work if you disable desktop effects in KDE? May be this is more an X11 connected bug, than KDE. When system starts, I pressed ESC until text messages on startup shown all went ok. But when starts x11, then one blink on monitor and after that monitor switched out, keyboard not working, CTRL+ALT+DEL not working, only hard reset works to stop system. If I start with x11failsafe option, the system starts. I can login as root, and I can start kdm. The login screen works, and can login into KDE4. What other options I can try? Right after this issue occurs, please reboot with x11failsafe option and attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old, i.e. the logfile for the radeon driver. I created similar startup when I submitted this bug, log was attached to first post. Xorg.0.log.old was created in similar situation, I started system, hard reset, and started system with safe settings which contains x11failsafe option. Now I figured out the problem. I downloaded DVD and tried to install other software, and was some errors in installation, if I tried to retry nothing happens, I can only use ignore options, it seems it was a rpm registration problem. I rebuild rpm database, refreshed installed packages and restarted system, it starts normally. May be the rpm database damaged during installation from KDElive cd. Sorry, I missed the logfiles in initial commment. But apparently the issue is gone now. Please reopen in case you can reproduce it again with openSUSE 11.2 >= RC1. Thanks. Created attachment 320657 [details] boot, msg kdm and Xorg logs from /var/log User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-1.3 Firefox/3.5.3 I installed 11.2 M8 into Acer Aspire 5102 laptop, with Radeon Xpress 200 graphics card, using KDE Live CD. Installation went OK. After first start, KDE not starts, system hang, the HDD lamp stays on. I restarted computer same in second start. I started in fail safe mode, the computer starts, and can start KDE from text interface. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
