Bug 546579

Summary: When running a remote desktop session (LTSP), clicking Cancel to exit a YaST module raises an error message: "Xlib Generic Event Extension missing on display"

This is a screenshot of the actual window that appears

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-1.3 Firefox/3.5.3

When opening YaST from an KIWI-LTSP client session, everything works as expected. However, when in a module of YaST, if the cancel button is clicked, it closes, but a window opens and complains about Xlib Generic Event Extension missing on display "X.X.X.X:7.0". After you close that window, nothing else happens. While this does not cause any harm and everything functions normally, this still makes you think something went wrong. This message is not displayed if you click OK, and happens in both KDE and GNOME so it is desktop independent.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. From a KIWI-LTSP client session, open YaST
2. Open a YaST module, such as Hostnames
3. Click the Cancel button
Actual Results:
A window complaining about Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display "192.168.0.x:7.0". about 12 times.

Expected Results:
For the YaST module to exit without any message.

Again this does not cause any problems or prevent the user form doing anything. It seems to be a benign message.

Could you please check if this problem exists both in Qt and GTK YaST?
Comment 3 Anthony Simonelli 2009-10-27 19:45:43 UTC
This problem does exist in both. I can provide you with screen shots and log files if it will help. The same window and same message appears whether YaST QT or GTK. I used the Live CD for KDE, installed it along with KIWI-LTSP 0.7.1 and tested it with the same results as when I used the GNOME Live CD.

Again if there is anything specific I can provide, please let me know.

Looks like either a gui or LTSP problem.
Reassigning bug to get things going...
Comment 5 Thomas Göttlicher 2009-11-11 16:38:30 UTC
I think that's not a YaST error but a X11 error.

Xorg-Team, can you please help?
Comment 6 Stefan Dirsch 2015-01-07 14:38:30 UTC
Product is no longer supported. In case the issue is still reproducable on a maintainerd product (at that momement: openSUSE 13.1 or later), feel free to reopen.
