(In reply to comment #3) > Created an attachment (id=322976) [details] > /var/log/Xorg.0.log This is the one for vesa driver. Please attach the one for radeonhd. Today I did something else, I was reading: http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:Most_Annoying_Bugs_11.2_dev and I found: "ATI-cards: X: display stays dark: move /etc/X11/xorg.conf.install to /etc/X11/xorg.conf; look here for further instructions. " So, I decided to remove /etc/X11/xorg.* and run: sax2 -r -m 0=radeonhd and it worked. My screen takes a little bit (2-3 seconds) to "turn on" but is working, I'm attaching the new logs. .. which forces to use the fbdev driver instead of trying to investigate issues
with radeon or radeonhd driver. :-(
Could you also attach Xorg.0.log without any xorg.conf in place?

Xorg.0.log without using any xorg.conf*
You have installed the fglrx driver. Which apparently is broken for your card. 'rpm -qa | grep fglrx' and 'rpm -e' all these packages. Then 'sax2 -a -r' should create a working configuration for you (after rebooting!). If this happened during installation you selected the ATI driver repository. Otherwise you wouldn't get the fglrx driver. Created attachment 323104 [details]
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
This should work, I reinstalled 11.2RC, then removed /etc/X11/xorg.conf* and reboot without xorg.conf, got the blank screen again.
Actually, when running "sax2 -r -m 0=radeonhd" the first time I also get the blank screen, and I need to reboot, running sax2 will work.
Hm, there's nothing that directly springs into my mind, the log seems sane.
Do I understand correctly, that with the xorg.conf from attachment #323063 [details] you get reasonable output?
(In reply to comment #16) > Hm, there's nothing that directly springs into my mind, the log seems sane. > > Do I understand correctly, that with the xorg.conf from attachment #323063 [details] you > get reasonable output? Yes, notice however that in order to get this working xorg.conf I need to remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf.install and /etc/X11/xorg.conf (and all the other xorg.conf* files) and then execute sax2 -r -m 0=radeonhd otherwise I'm stuck with on a blank screen. Latest change: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Fri Nov 6 14:24:21 CET 2009 - eich@suse.de - Updated driver: [...] * Disable DRI/Acceleration for R6XX and up until fix for lockups is found. http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Drivers:/Video/openSUSE_Factory/i586/xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd-1.3.0_20091106_619706-2.1.i586.rpm http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Drivers:/Video/openSUSE_Factory/x86_64/xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd-1.3.0_20091106_619706-2.1.x86_64.rpm Does this fix the issue? The Problem exists not only on Radeon-Graphics. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 548328 *** (In reply to comment #19) > The Problem exists not only on Radeon-Graphics. I don't think marking all "similar" bugs as DUPLICATE will work here, RadeonHD is one thing and the others are something else. (In reply to comment #18) > The Problem exists not only on Radeon-Graphics. I haven't confirmed the latest packages work, if this does work then the other driver drivers must be corrupted somehow. If this fix doesn't work then we can begin thinking in something in the server, however I still think the developers should mark the bugs as DUPLICATED/ORWHATEVER. (In reply to comment #20) > (In reply to comment #19) > > The Problem exists not only on Radeon-Graphics. > I don't think marking all "similar" bugs as DUPLICATE will work here, RadeonHD > is one thing and the others are something else. I fully agree here with Mario. Kris, I would like to ask you to stop your 'I close any X bug as duplicate of Bug #548328' action immediately. All these changes need to get reverted, they trigger a mail flood and are of no use at all. Thanks for your cooperation. OK. I'm sorry that my Actions were not helpful. I installed and tried again using the latest factory packages, didn't work; same results. Too bad this is happening. I will continue using 11.1. (In reply to comment #23) > I installed and tried again using the latest factory packages, didn't work; > same results. Too bad this is happening. I will continue using 11.1. You *can* use 11.2 with the xorg.conf from attachment #323063 [details], right? If that is the case, I'd like you to perform a series of tests, where we strip the xorg.conf slowly but steadily into a form that resembles the automatic configuration. That way we'll find what's happening here, because the xorg.conf seems trivial enough so that I don't see what's wrong by just looking at it. This is probably a duplicate of bug 547106. Can you please test the xorg-x11-driver-video package as described in that bug? I installed: - xorg-x11-driver-video (7.4-87.92.1) from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg:/11.2/openSUSE_11.2 - xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd (1.3.0_20091124_6387ab4-4.4) from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Drivers:/Video/openSUSE_Factory and nothing, same result, I'm still using the default/renamed xorg.conf. I forgot to tell but I also renamed xorg.conf to xorg.old and also freezes. (In reply to comment #25) > This is probably a duplicate of bug 547106. Can you please test the > xorg-x11-driver-video package as described in that bug? Can't be. That bug addresses an issue in radeon, but not radeonhd driver. Sorry for the confusion. (In reply to comment #28) > Can't be. That bug addresses an issue in radeon, but not radeonhd driver. Sorry > for the confusion. *Blush* Right. Sorry. Still need to know whether I was right with comment 24, and whether you would be willing to conduct some tests. I reinstalled 11.2 (not using 11.2RC1), "sax2" nor "sax2 -r -m 0=radeonhd" don't work anymore. I had to rename xorg.conf.install to xorg.conf to make it work. Created attachment 332924 [details]

Let me know the changes you need for testing this bug.
(In reply to comment #30) > I reinstalled 11.2 (not using 11.2RC1), "sax2" nor "sax2 -r -m 0=radeonhd" > don't work anymore. I had to rename xorg.conf.install to xorg.conf to make it > work. xorg.conf.install uses fbdev or vesa, not radeonhd. Again, does the xorg.conf from attachment #323063 [details] work? You described in comment 17 that it does, however, comment 15 is misleading. Comment 30 states that sax2 isn't working anymore, but in comment 15 you contradict yourself. Sorry, but I'm completely lost now. I don't know what configuration on which system on which operating system works or not. (In reply to comment #33) > (In reply to comment #30) > > I reinstalled 11.2 (not using 11.2RC1), "sax2" nor "sax2 -r -m 0=radeonhd" > > don't work anymore. Yes, it *was* working on 11.2RC1, but is not on 11.2. I can try again using the old xorg.conf (from attachment #323063 [details] comment #8) and run sax2 again, since sax2 is not working anymore with the default xorg.conf.install file or without any xorg.conf; or do you have any other suggestion? > Sorry, but I'm completely lost now. I don't know what configuration on which > system on which operating system works or not. Sorry for the confusion, I hope everything is clear now. Ok, that helps a lot. So we can reduce the issue to a change between 11.2RC1 and 11.2. To make things absolutely clear: It *only* worked on 11.2RC1 with the specified xorg.conf. Without xorg.conf, it broke as well? Yes, it would be a good idea to try using the old xorg.conf. You maybe also want to try adding Option "AccelMethod" "shadowfb" in the Driver section in xorg.conf (as a second test). You maybe also > want to try adding > Option "AccelMethod" "shadowfb" > in the Driver section in xorg.conf (as a second test). I tested with and without this option, the results are kind of weird: runlevel 3: - Option: works, kind of, because freezes "sometimes" I don't know why. - No Option: freezes. runlevel 5: - Option: freezes. - No Option: freezes. I guess this is going to be harder to fix, since logs don't say a thing, and no errors are printed. Still the same issue with openSUSE 11.3 (add boot option 'nomodeset')? What are the results on 11.3 with radeon driver instead (without boot option 'nomodeset'). Still waiting for a response for four weeks now. Please reopen once you can provide the requested feedback.
