Xorg.0.log

Upgraded my wife's laptop to 11.2 from 11.1 - tried both a fresh install and then installing 11.1 and upgrading and the same happened - in the case of the fresh install it was after the first reboot during install, in the latter case when zypper dup had finished and I rebooted:

When X starts, the screen just goes a mixture of black and white eventually being fully black - it was fine in 11.1.

I tried upgrading to the latest drivers in X11:Drivers:Video but it made no difference.

Will attach Xorg.0.log along with hwinfo --gfx. If it helps, I've put a photo of the screen at http://jamesthevicar.com/images/jpg/radeonhd-corrupt.jpg

hwinfo --gfx follows:

James, any /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Comment 4 James Ogley 2009-11-23 18:38:03 UTC
It's on the initial report (Comment 0 I guess).

Incidentally, the laptop in question in my wife's and since she needs to be able to use it, I've re-installed 11.1 on it. I can test anything you need but it'll need me to have the time to upgrade and then possibly revert to 11.1 if it fails.

The similar problem on notebook HP Compaq 6715b (AMD Turion 64 X2, ATI Xpress 1250). Radeonhd driver was working quite well in openSuse 11.1 but it is broken in OpenSuse 11.2. The screen flicks every few seconds (like broken old TV). It makes notebook almost unusable and AMD stopped the development of fglrx drivers for these chips some time ago.

Still the same issue with openSUSE 11.3 (add boot option 'nomodeset')? What are the results on 11.3 with radeon driver instead (without boot option 'nomodeset').
