Monochrome printing works fine with my Samsung CLP-300 printer.

When i switch to colour printing within CUPS (using the CUPS web-frontend or YaST doesn't matter) the printer stops to work and simply does nothing.

I found a few reports about this problem with Google and it seems that Ghostscript 8.64 has a bug which causes this behaviour.
Alas openSUSE does not provide a newer version of Ghostscript without this bug. Even the latest version in the Factory repository doesn't work.

More info about this bug can be found at http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/forum/read.php?26,1810

Reproducible: Always

According to bugs.ghostscript.com the bug was fixed with rev 9452 of Ghostscript (which is not part of the 8.64 release).

Currently an update to a newer ghostscript would break a lot of
packages out there (like TeX Live) as ghostscript 8.70 is under GPL3.

An update to Ghostscript 8.70 would be nice but is not the only solution for this problem.
A patched 8.64 version (with the bitcmyk-blank-output.patch from http://bugs.ghostscript.com/attachment.cgi?id=4801&action=view ) would also do the trick. Could an updated 8.64 version be provided in the 11.2 repositories?

I think we cannot tell openSUSE 11.2 users that they have to patch the Ghostscript source and recompile manually when they want colour printing... :)

fixed version submitted to factory
for openSUSE 11.2 a SWAMPID is required
Comment 4 Christian Dengler 2009-11-26 13:47:58 UTC
My advice: update here.
Comment 5 Marcus Meissner 2009-11-26 14:04:18 UTC
looks fine to me for the "just the small patch" variant. -> go ahead I would say

Marcus? The osc request 25573 is not accepted .. that is that the
fixed version for bugs #557948 and bugs #559122 are not included
in openSuSE 11.2

Comment 15 Marcus Meissner 2010-03-12 13:45:22 UTC
submitreq 25573 has only this diff compared to the last released bugfix release:

+Mon Nov 30 14:42:21 CET 2009 - werner@suse.de
+
+- Fix possible vulnerability in ghostscript 8.64 (bnc#559122)
+

So the fix for this specific bug was checked in already, just the one minor security bug was not taken for some reason.
Comment 16 Dr. Werner Fink 2010-03-12 13:51:29 UTC
There is a type in the SWAMPID page ... the package is not
ghotscript-library but ghostscript-library
   ^-- missing s
