Are you using KDE 4.3.x from openSUSE 11.2 or a newer version from the Build Service? I am using 4.3.4-1.5-i586 from obs/KDE I will try to update to 4.3.4-1.16 and check if it goes any better. Some comments: I use it on a netbook. I have the feeling that kmail is slow when a monitor is connected to the netbook, whereas kmail works normally when the netbook is in "portable" mode. For the other applications I do not see much difference between the 2 settings (which was not the case with OS11.1) The part of the version string after the '-' is just the build number and is not significant for checking if a bug still exists. The display in use is unlikely to affect the speed of kmail. What kinds of addressbooks do you use? If you have a remote addressbook that is slow or unreachable that could cause the kind of slowness you report. addressbook is local kmail connects to pop3 servers however, all the data files (eg addressbook and mail files) are linked from their default place to a place in my home dir: .kde4/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf -> ~/DataDir/std.vcf This was due to some slow Nepomuk queries that resolve email addresses to contacts, which have been fixed in KDE 4.4. See openSUSE 11.3 if you do not use Build Service KDE 4.4. |
