Description Christian Widmer 2009-12-16 00:12:01 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091103 SUSE/3.5.5-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.5

I've upgraded from one of the last release candidates and only have official repositories plus nvidia, packman and chromium.

Recently, my KDE workspace comes up really, really slowly. kded runs with a cpu-load of 25% for a couple minutes, it may have to do with some of the applets being loaded (maybe knetworkmanager?).

I'm not sure what information is relevant to debug this, so let me know which log files you need.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Turn on computer
2. boot into KDE

Actual Results:
KDE should come up quickly (couple seconds after boot), it's a pretty new system (dual-core, sufficient memory)

Expected Results:
KDE comes up, but remains loading stuff from the hard-drive for a few minutes. Some of the applets (kdenetworkmanager4) are not loaded yet.

This occurs on a Vostro 1500 Laptop from Dell.

Have you tried if the problem persists with a new user? Maybe it is a related to your configuration files.

I have just tried this and you're right, the problem appears to be user specific. Removing .kde4 didn't fix it for my real user, so I'm not sure what causes the problem.

The long initial loading process only happens when logging in the first time. When I log out and back in with the problematic user, KDE boots up fast. As mentioned in the other bug, I've also been having problems with KNetworkmanager, so I think there is a common cause underlying these two observations.

Does this problem still exist?

I can confirm that the bug seems to be resolved in RC1 of openSuse 11.3, thus keeping it closed.
