This could be connected with this other bug:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555623

After the last kernel upadte, the usb devices (see mentioned bug) works fine but the systema hangs (freeze) after boot including touchscreen and keyboard.
If the wiifi device is not configured the systema works fine including usb devices.

The systems works (as metioned in the previous bug) well before the update, excecept the usb devices.

The machine is a MEDION AKOYA MINI 1012 (MSI Wind clone) and the wiffi device is dectectd by yast as ""rt2860sta"

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Update kernel-desktop to version 2.6.31.8-0.1.1
2. Reboot the system with wiffi device well configured)
3. The systema hangs (if wifi is not configured the system works fine
Actual Results:
The system hangs (freeze) there's not way to reboot, kill X because keypad and touchpad don't work.

Expected Results:
The system must work fine with wifi device configured, as it works before. And also usb devices (fixed in the bug mentioned at the begining(

Same problem here, using rt2860sta. Seems this is not an isolated incident: http://forums.opensuse.org/network-internet/430012-system-freeze-after-last-kernel-update.html

Downgrade to 2.6.31.5 seems to resolve.

The same problem here.

I have a Asus eeePC 1000H with a "RaLink RT2860" wireless device.

After update from kernel 2.6.31.5 to 2.6.31.8 the system freezes while connecting to wlan using knetworkmanager. A downgrade to kernel 2.6.31.5 solves this problem but brings back the old problems.

The problem seems to be well known in the press and various forums:
http://www.linux-magazin.ch/NEWS/Open-Suse-11.2-leidet-an-WLAN-Stoerung-nach-Kernel-Update
http://forums.opensuse.org/network-internet/430400-new-kernek-desktop-2-6-31-8-causes-system-lock-wifi.html
and so on...

Hello,
I tried it - the patch rt28x0-kmp-desktop-2.6.31.5_2.6.31.8_0.1-1.1.i586.rpm supplied in 540589 solves the problem for the -desktop kernel.

regards
Thomas

Hello,
the package with the working modules are in bug# 568307 not in the bug I mentioned above.

After the last kernel update (2.6.31.12-0.1.1) everytihng works good, wiffi, usb devices...

I think this bug is solved.

hi, i update de kernel but.... doesn´t works. it could be because i also have change now de network gnome aplication for wicd, because i had a problem with wpa2 wifi login.

This new kernel with wicd cause no wifi works. it can´t find any wifi. Really could be a problem in the wicd network aplication with this new kernel.

I remember all that the medion and msi wind u100 really its the same computer remarked.

On my Asus EeePC 1000H the problem is solved with the new kernel 2.6.21.12.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to close as fixed.

WRT comment #8, please try to isolate where the failure is and open a new report. This report is for a full system freeze, which doesn't appear to be the same problem you're experiencing.
