The default refresh rate (I guess 60MHz) for my LG Flatron L1953S is wrong. I have a patch of low sharpness in the middle of panel. When changed to 75MHz the picture look nice again. 

I think it changed recently. I don't seen any particular reason. 

I also remember to have similar problem with other LCD Panels and AFAIR it was SUSE 10.

Let me know if you need any further information (i.e. logs).

According to DDC/EDID 60Hz is the preferred vertical timing for the monitor

Modeline "1280x1024"x0.0  108.00  1280 1328 1440 1688  1024 1025 1028 1066 +hsync +vsync (64.0 kHz)

108000000/(1688*1066) = 60

==> broken hardware
