Description João Fernandes 2010-03-15 00:47:48 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.0) Gecko/20100115 SUSE/3.6.0-1.2 Firefox/3.6

When using the latest hplip (v. 3.10.2), auto duplex printing is broken, even pages get mirrored. This is known by hplip developers:
http://hplipopensource.com/node/339 -- (note 2)

Don't know the source of this problem but it gets fixed when using Ghostscript 8.71, I've tested it myself.

I don't know if this can be classified as a bug in here. From one side, I had to install the latest hplip in order to use my brand new HP Photosmart but it is not a bug in the release provided software.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Update hplip to the latest version (3.10.2)
2. Try printing with auto duplex enabled
3. Even pages get mirrored
Actual Results:
Even pages get mirrored.

Expected Results:
Pages should be printed normally.

Many thanks for the information
so that I know about the issue
for the next openSUSE version.

But it is no bug in openSUSE 11.2
because the HPLIP version 3.9.8 which we
provide officially for openSUSE 11.2 works o.k.

This is the HPLIP upstream bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/484928

This is the Ghostscript upstream bug report:
http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691029
where the fix is in Ghostscript 8.71

Hi Folks
Here is a list of Launchpad/Hplip questions/bugs that I submitted over the last few months.

96719
97197
102764
523321

My latest config is the most stable to date

Printer HP Photosmart C7280 - all in one -wired network attached
Open SuSe 11.2
Cups 1.4.2
HPlip 3.10.2
gs 8.70

Remaining problems all seem to involve duplex printing
mirrored back page when it works - flip long edge
flip short edge - okay when job prints - sometimes job sits in queue with various errors or just doesn't print

single sided print works most consistently okay

After a failure I usually have to delete and recreate the printers/queues
in order to get it working again

Does anyone know whee I can get GS 8.71 in an OpenSuse compatable RPM ?

Thank you and best wishes

The openSUSE build service project "Printing" is our
development project for Ghostscript.
Therefore the ghostscript-library-8.70 RPM therein
is the latest which we currently have.

Regarding packages from the development project "Printing", see
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575544#c2
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Note that the Printing project is a development project
and not at all an official repository for production use.
...
What you corrently have is a "work-in-progress-development version".
