Some KDE bugs, that appeared in 11.3RC1, is related to missing hal package:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install openSUSE 11.3 RC1 from KDE LiveCD

Besides, without HAL, Dolphin don't see any HDD.

KDE 4.4 will not work without HAL, so please readd hal to KDE4 pattern.

or maybe it would be better 
to add hal as „requires“ of kdebase4 package?
