Hhe hibernation mode does not work. It starts as usual, the progress bar can be seen. But then, the computer hangs and the monitor dies shutdown.

There is a certain regularity according to which the comp is not switching to the hibernation mode. I think that the point is in KDE screensaver.

After selecting "Тhe Мatrix" screen saver and trying to switch the computer to the hibernation mode, it hangs up instead of standby mode and the monitor shutdown. Only the reboot can help.

If the "Solar Wind (3D)" screensaver is selected, the system just blocks the screen itself, instead of hibernation. But it doesn't hang, nevertheless.

So, I think you're seeing two different problems, one of which is that the image
size is too big and the kernel cannot create an image of that size, and the
second is that one of device drivers you're using crashes after the image
has been created (or the creation of it has failed).

I think we should debug the second problem first.

Please try to boot with "init=/bin/bash" and do:

# mount /sys
# swapon -a
# echo disk > /sys/power/state
(and if it resumes)
# echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger
(to reboot).

Please let me know the result.

I _think_ the "blank screen" problem is related to the radeon driver,
while the "failing hibernation" problem from comment #1 can be worked around
by echoing 350000000 into /sys/power/image_size before hibernation.

The first problem you're seeing is the same as the upstream Bugzilla:

The second one is most likely also upstream, but I was unable to determine
the right upstream bug for it, because I don't know which driver is causing
problems to happen when it's resume callback is executed.  I'm afraid
we won't be able to proceed any further without finding that driver.

But this is not the latest patch for X's, which closed a local security problem, I do not install something from the next patch. What is the most intreteresnoe at the start of first screen is dark, and then the screen goes blank and goes into sleep mode, hot keys and I switch to text mode, the monitor wakes up, switch to graphics mode when you try to move it off again. I upgraded to 2.6.37.6 kernel from the repository

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/openSUSE-11.4/openSUSE_11.4/

and now when I try to send the computer in sleep mode, the system saves the image to disk, the monitor turns off and it goes into standby mode, but power to the computer system unit is not disconnected.

In this case, before disconnecting the monitor, the system goes to text mode and displayed on a minute an error message.
When you restart the system behaves as if she came out of sleep mode.

OK, that's better than before.

There are a few possibilities:

(1) One of device drivers blocks during the device power-off phase.
(2) The non-boot CPUs cannot be shut down.
(3) The system refuses to enter the S4 state.

Does it power off if you boot the kernel with maxcpus=1 ?

Does the normal power of (ie. during system shutdown) work?

Does it power off if you do "echo 0 > /sys/power/pm_async" before hibernation?

Yes when the computer shutdown power to the system unit is turned off properly

No hibernation don't work, the screen goes blank but power to the system unit does not turn off

OK, thanks for the information.  I think that one of the device drivers
causes the system to hang during the last phase of hibernation, but more
testing would be necessary to verify this supposition and identify the
device in question.

Would you be able to compile your own kernel from sources or do I need to
prepare a test kernel for you?

OK, I understand that the log in the previous comment is simply a boot log
from the 'default' kernel (which is not very useful here).  Or is there

OK, but this is a boot log, right?  So this is normally done during boot
and there's nothing wrong with it.

Or is it what you get when you try to resume from hibernation, after having
created the image?

I conducted an experiment and found Mesa gathered without gallium and kms.
Installed Mesa from repository http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/pontostroy/openSUSE_11.4/i586/Mesa-classic-7.11.git20110501-11.1.i586.rpm

As a result, my computer began to go into hibernation. I think that the cause is a Radeon driver, kms and mesa libs

Unfortunately we do not have the ressources to address that issue
