Description David Rankin 2010-11-08 05:21:39 UTC
Guys,

Both webpin and http://packages.opensuse-community.org/ are totally broken for 11.3. For example, searching for 'fluxbox' returns nothing but:

fbdesk (1.4.1)

despite fluxbox being in the X11/windowmanagers repository it is totally missed. This problem has been reported on the open-suse lists a number of times.

-----------------------------
Specifically on 7/21/2010:

I have run webpin several times on 11.3 and it always comes back with "No results ..." Is it set up yet? Example:

11:30 zephyr:/home/backup/rpms/suse11.3> webpin kdelibs3
... performing request on http://software.opensuse-community.org/ws/searchservice/Search/Simple/openSUSE_113/kdeNo results found for "kdelibs3" in openSUSE_113

Now I know kdelibs3 is in OBS, I installed it earlier and I can look at it here:

http://opensuse.ca.unixheads.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_11.3/i586/kdelibs3-3.5.10-89.1.i586.rpm

but it doesn't show up in webpin.... What's up with that?

Apparently somebody rebooted the box and forgot to restart the service. Can
you check it now?

And Again on 11/04/2010:

Guys,

All I wanted to do was get a new bootsplash. So I go to webpin and type in bootsplash expecting the normal 20 or so. But *nothing* is indexed except:

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/11.3/standard

Why? I know there are many bootsplashs in build service, but how can I find them?

-----------------------------

Bottom line is we are nearly six months since 11.3 release and webpin, one of the most useful and most relied upon tools for package location is still totally broken. It has become apparent that this isn't a simple "forgot to restart the service" issue. It looks like the indexes are totally broken and no build service packages are ever returned.

So -- it needs some tlc. Both the CLI webpin and http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/11.3/standard should work and return a listing of package available it both 11.3/standard and buildservice.

Marcus, could you route this to the responsible person, please?
Comment 2 Marcus Rückert 2010-11-08 11:04:40 UTC
the winner for this would be Pascal :D

CCing benji aswell.

Any progress? It's been reported that 11.4 behaves the same.
Comment 4 Martin Schlander 2011-02-16 16:37:34 UTC
I wonder what repositories are supposed to be indexed these days?

I'm puzzled that packages from KDE:Extra and KDE:UpdatedApps do not appear in results (for 11.3). Since these are quite safe repositories, which should be very popular.

Example: rekonq
http://packages.opensuse-community.org/index.jsp?distro=openSUSE_113&searchTerm=rekonq

See 678754: webpin is dead, replacement is underway but will take a couple more weeks.
