Description Christopher Yeleighton 2010-12-22 23:48:12 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; pl-PL; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 SUSE/3.6.13-0.2.1 Firefox/3.6.13

The cups device in ghostscript is an important device responsible for serving CUPS filters and it should be documented.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. { xdg-open '/usr/share/doc/packages/ghostscript-library/doc/Devices.htm'; }
  2. Look for "cups".
Actual Results:
  1. The Web browser shows the descriptions of supported devices.
  2. Not found.

Expected Results:
  2. My guess:
The cups device is built into ghostscript since 8.60. It is used by CUPS filters and it produces output of type application/vnd.cups-raster.

I would have posted it to Artifex Bugzilla directly but I am still blocked as a
troll (whistleblower) in because of Bug 608071.

By the way:
Some related documentation about the "CUPS Raster Format"
and the "Raster API" is available at the CUPS web site at
http://www.cups.org/documentation.php

/suse/werner> gs -h | grep cups
coslwxl cp50 cups declj250 deskjet devicen dfaxhigh dfaxlow display

if you need more report it upstream.
Comment 3 Christopher Yeleighton 2011-01-10 19:02:28 UTC
I cannot report upstream because I am still blocked as a
troll (whistleblower) because of Bug 608071. I have notified the project administrator at Artifex by e-mail, pointing him to this report. In that sense, there is nothing more you need to do about this, unless you consider it important enough.
