A default kde install looks ok, so the black screen is gnome specific. Please try again with boot option 'nomodeset' (--> radeonhd driver). If that doesn't help also uninstall xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd package (--> UMS radeon driver). nomodeset as boot option helps I have to add, from the KDE session I installed the gnome pattern and logged out to kdm, then logged into a gnome session. This led to the effect that the kdm splash screen or background remained on screen and gnome started but did not display anything but the cursor variants. Thanks. Closing as dup. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 661981 *** |
