Log from virtualbox

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 SUSE/3.6.13-0.2.1 Firefox/3.6.13

Hi!
Trying to load the M6 GNOME Live-CD in virtualbox causes the guest machine to be crashed/aborted as soon as X tries to load. Loading up the M5 Live-CD works, but upon doing a zupper dup from an M5 system to an M6 system, X server again crashes on next restart. The Failsafe option at the bootloader in this case does work but gets me to a screen with only the command-prompt available.

Happens whether I have 3D acceleration enabled on not on the guest machine.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Bootup from Live-CD in virtualbox
2. Use the option to load Live Image at boot
3. Watch guest crash or abort as soon as X is about to start

Hi Atri,
I just downloaded and tested gnome liveCD (milestone 6) from http://software.opensuse.org/developer/en and it boot up fine on my machine (so lowering to importance major),

would you be so kind and could you please post from guest (inside virtualbox) system you /var/log/messages and your /var/log/Xorg.??.log please ?

thanks

Comment 5 Michal Seben 2011-02-11 07:14:19 UTC
from /var/log/messages I see only vboxsf failing:
"vboxsf: no symbol version for ... " but I don't think this is related to vboxvideo issue,

hm could you please try RC1 ? liveCD from http://software.opensuse.org/developer/en

thanks!

Still an issue with RC1. Happy to submit more logs, etc. if required :)
Comment 7 Herbert Graeber 2011-02-21 21:05:48 UTC
I observed the following, using openSUSE 11.4 RC1: I have to start with the kernel option with nopreload, else The system does not find it's partitions.

Second, with openSUSE 11.4 and 11.3, using virtualbox 4.0.2 I get black screens after some minutes. The only way, to get the screen back is to resize the virtualbox window. This problem goes away with virtualbox 11.4. This issue is mentioned in virtualbox's changelog.

Third, the cahngelog mentions an incompatibility betrween virtualbox 4 and earlier virtualbox hosts, regarding screen resolutions used by the guest, that are unknown to the host. The effect can be, that openSUSE 11.4 RC1 in virtualbox may not run on openSUSE 11.3, except the host virtualbox is updated to virtualbox 4.

I have informed Michel and he already and he updated virtualbox to 4.0.4 for openSUSE 11.4.

Comment 7 indicates the bug has been fixed. If it's still relevant, please open a new bug against a recent version of openSUSE.
