Could you boot without "splash=whatever quiet" options and use "debug initcall_debug" instead? When this happens just take another shot. Reproduced the problem with 2.6.38-rc5-0.0.42.8344657-default with suggested boot parameters. It seems to get stuck when loading the i915 driver ( see first screenshot) and then produces a dump ( second screenshot) Created attachment 415368 [details]
