Hi,

I'm using 11.4 here, and the screen flickers every 30 s in KDE4. It is
possible to trigger this by stopping and starting the "Display
Management change monitor" service in KDE service manager, although
stopping the service doesn't eliminate the flicker. I should also add
that this didn't occur with factory some weeks ago.

Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone know of a way to make this stop?

Regards,
Peter

I see the very same.

But only on one screen with a dual head setup.

The flickering screen is connected via a analog VGA cable. While the non
flickering one uses DVI.

Both signals are coming from one nVidia GeForce 6200 card.

Same happens with my worklaptop on an old ATI graphics, but not every 30s but more like every 2 to 5 minutes, I'll try to look out for it abit more and time it.
(oh also that is an ubuntu machine, so it seems not limited to opensuse)

Same here. The single monitor is connected via VGA cable to ati HD4850.

Same here - dualhead, only the VGA flickers, cca every 10 seconds. nVidia GeForce 6200, nouveau driver.
Comment 5 Lars Müller 2011-03-11 12:42:23 UTC
As Petr I'm using the nouveau driver too.
Comment 6 Peter B 2011-03-12 08:25:09 UTC
I'm using an ATI radeon 9550 (r300g driver) connected via VGA.

I have the same problem. I am using a card Model: "ATI RV516 [Radeon X1300/X1550 Series]". I use a VGA cable and I have flicking each 30 seconds.

PD. I posted bug in https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=664533
PD. I had this problem in 11.4 RC and i downgraded to 11.3 waiting a solucion. I got same problem in a 11.4 kde live

I think this is a FrameBuffer issue. It does it even on the console, i.e. with no X, KDE, Gnome, Enlightenment, XFCE or whatever running.

Try changing the VGA=0xXXXX to VGA=NORMAL at the end of the bootstrap command line, which stops it booting onto the FrameBuffer. The flashing goes away.

This seems to be a duplicate of bug #664533. See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=664533#c15 for a solution.
Comment 10 Owen Savill 2011-03-31 11:38:29 UTC
While I agree that it has things in common the screen blanked for me about every 30 seconds outside of X. I was at a command prompt while using a console, <Ctrl><Alt><F1> to drop from X to console 1, and to my surprise the flashing continued. I immediately thought of the Frame Buffer so I re-booted and told the boot process not to use the Frame Buffer. The blinking has stopped and now X & KDE run just fine with no further changes. Re-boot and allow use of the Frame Buffer and it starts blanking again.

We may all be experiencing different issues that give the same result. Maybe I should open a new bug report.

Hi, I had the same problem. I tried several versions of ATI Catalyst driver after de-installing the OpenSuSE one. No change. Big surprise, because it works with other distributions quite well.

Somebody gave me a tip. It appers, disabling upowerd made the flickering stop.
