Description Tony Cavanna 2011-03-20 04:44:58 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0b12) Gecko/20110222 Firefox/4.0b12

During the upgrade process from 11.3 to 11.4 some software I had installed was removed without any warning.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install gpodder and required dependencies on open suse 11.3
2. Update to 11.4 with DVD install disk.
3.
Actual Results:
gpodder has been removed

Expected Results:
Not remove software which the user may have has chosen to install, or at least warn the user that the software was going to be removed during the upgrade process.

You can obtain gpodder here. It's not in the Open Suse repositories.

Well, zypper dup says what packages are going to be removed. For updating with YaST, there's the "orphaned packages" selection, which contains all packages that don't have an "update candidate" in a repository.
The "installation summary" also shows the packages that are going to be removed.

Thanks, I'll use one of these methods to update to the next version instead of downloading the DVD and using that.

Wait, downloading the DVD and using it *is* the YaST case. You just need to click on the software selection link and double check if everything suits your needs.
