screendump with VirtualBox window

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:6.0.2) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0.2

Starting openSUSE 12.1 M5 x86_64 in VirtualBox up to init 3 gives a normal screen on tty1. After going into init 5, the screen gets a strange appearance, looks like a very low resolution screen. Only the upper left part of the screen gets more or less displayed. See attachment.

I did not have this problem with M3 in VirtualBox, nor with earlier versions of openSUSE.

I did remove the nouveau driver, but that did not change anything.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Thanks.

This seems to be caused by VirtualBoxGuestAdditions installed in openSUSE. Without installation there is no problem. But I will attach the requested file.

Hmm. Nothing obvious in the logfile I could spot. Resolution for X:

Modeline "1182x819"x0.0 58.80 1182 1184 1186 1188 819 821 823 825 -hsync -vsync (49.5 kHz)

Does this make sense?
Comment 5 Freek de Kruijf 2011-09-14 15:00:55 UTC
No this does not make sense. The resolution of the KDE screen is 1024x786.
By enabling Automatic adaption of guest screen, I can change the size of the KDE screen on tty7, however when I go back to the console (tty1) the size of the window goes back to its original size.

Michael, since you're still doing the vbox updates in openSUSE: Is this a known issue? Regression in virtualbox package or Kernel?
Comment 7 Michal Seben 2011-09-16 08:59:39 UTC
probably vbox issue,
bug was already reported in upstream :
http://www.virtualbox.de/ticket/9490

for workaround drop string vga=0x317 in grub option
