Description Juergen Weigert 2011-10-17 14:47:40 UTC
this is on a Leonovo X60s. wlan is iwl3945.

Networkmanager says, that the wlan is nonfunctional, firmware not loaded.
zypper in kernel-firmware
gave me kernel-firmware-20110709-8.2.noarch.rpm from Factory, now wlan works.

Is this missing from the laptop-pattern?

Confirmed on a R61, fresh installation of 12.1 RC1 (Build0379). WLAN is (lspci): Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61). Manual installation of package kernel-firmware was needed to use wlan.

Setting priority to P3, because leaving this unsolved would cause some severe irritations for newbies if still present in 12.1 final.
Comment 2 Jiri Slaby 2011-10-31 09:48:37 UTC
@Greg: shouldn't the firmware package belong to any pattern? Otherwise people won't have it installed and the devices do not work.
Comment 3 Greg Kroah-Hartman 2011-10-31 14:23:36 UTC
The installer handles this, by looking at the pci ids for the devices, and matches it up with the MODULE_FIRMWARE files, which then goes and pulls in the linux-firmware package.

Nothing I can do, I'll reassign this to the installer, perhaps something broke there.

Coolo, any ideas? See comments #2 and #3.

The problem with it not installing seems to be common to the DVD installer, but not the LiveCD. I have also experienced this with broadcom firmware. Installing kernel-firmware got it working. Should this be filed as a new bug?
